"The more you know the less you risk": the participative program of the Union of Municipalities of the Bolognese Apennines

The project aims to improve the local civil protection system by involving the community

On Sunday, July 16, a workshop adressed to citizens and focused to risk culture and best practices of civil protection was held in the historic center of Vergato, in the province of Bologna, as part of the "More you know less you risk" project. The initiative, which kicked off last February, is promoted by the Union of Municipalities of the Bolognese Apennines and aims to consolidate local civil protection system and make it more accessible and inclusive, by promoting dialogue between citizens and institutions.

In fact, the 10-month project includes a participative process that has a dual function. It is aimed, first of all, at fostering discussion among the various components of the local civil protection system in order to identify problems related to current methods of training, information and risk prevention.
Secondly, it wants to extend participation to citizens in order to better understand the real priorities and needs of the population, both in ordinary and emergency situations. For this purpose, correct behaviors to be adopted in order to reduce exposure to risks are also promoted during community meetings.

"The more you know the less you risk", with the slogan "The safety of the territory is a common good," shares the same themes as the I don't take risks campaign: spreading of civil protection knowledge and culture, along with risk prevention and mitigation, in the belief that more aware and informed citizens can make a difference to create safer communities.
