\"Who's Afraid of Thunderstorms?\" opens the new series of in-depth discussions on campaign issues

To stop being afraid, we need to know more about thunderstorms, about their characteristics, predictability and especially their impact on the ground in different contexts: in the city, in the mountains and at the sea.
\nThis is the central theme of the first of the new webinars tagged Io non rischio, a series of digital appointments that in the coming months will address some of the most important issues of civil protection and risk communication. 

\n

The webinar featured experts Filippo Thiery, a meteorologist from the Department of Civil Protection, Diego Mantovani, acting director of the Decentralized Functional Center Office of the Autonomous Province of Bolzano, and Palma Schena, from the Decentralized Functional Center of the Region of Puglia. Moderation, however, was provided by Luca Ferraris, president of the CIMA Foundation.
\nAmong the topics covered were good practices to follow at the seaside and in the mountains in case of bad weather, correct interpretation of warning codes, and debunking the most common fake news about thunderstorms.

Nell’ambito del rischio meteo-idrogeologico e idraulico rientrano gli effetti sul territorio determinati da condizioni meteorologiche avverse e dall’azione delle acque in generale, siano esse superficiali, in forma liquida o solida, o sotterranee.

\n

Le manifestazioni più tipiche di questa tipologia di fenomeni sono temporali, venti e mareggiate, nebbia, neve e gelate, ondate di calore, frane, alluvioni, erosioni costiere, subsidenze e valanghe.

\n

Il rischio meteo-idrogeologico e idraulico è fortemente condizionato anche dall’azione dell’uomo.

\n

La densità della popolazione, la progressiva urbanizzazione, l’abbandono dei terreni montani, l’abusivismo edilizio, il continuo disboscamento, l’uso di tecniche agricole poco rispettose dell’ambiente e la mancata manutenzione dei versanti e dei corsi d’acqua hanno sicuramente aggravato il dissesto e messo ulteriormente in evidenza la fragilità del territorio italiano, aumentando l’esposizione ai fenomeni e quindi il rischio stesso.
